| OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : The post aims to provide assessment of possibilities, develop strategies and seize opportunities for WHO Western Pacific Regional Office WPRO in expanding its public presence beyond "traditional" media into the sphere of social media. Through this post, promotion of the WHO corporate brand in the public and managing its reputation will be given attention. The post aims to align corporate responsiveness and facilitate a coherent communications approach between the regional office and the WHO Headquarters (HQ). | |
| Description of duties: Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 1. Contributes to the identification and implementation of approaches to capitalize the possibilities of WHO using social media for public information and communication; 2. Contributes to the planning and development of advocacy and communication activities and efficiently delivers organizational and logistical requisites; 3. Performs horizon scanning or similar activity in the social media space; 4. Contribute to the identification and evaluation of new possible platforms for WPRO's corporate social media presence; 5. Regularly liaise with media monitoring focal points at country level to gather media monitoring that could be included in the WPR public health news daily to identify breaking news situations and identify those that can potentially become social media opportunities; 6. Compile daily report of the media coverage (traditional and social media); 7. Provide qualitative analysis of the content of the media on WPRO (weekly) and on particular topics, e.g. public health emergencies, WHO campaigns as needed; and 8. Perform other related duties, as determined by supervisor. | |
| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
| Education: University degree in Communications, Journalism or relevant field obtained from a recognized university is essential. Training in social media use and management an advantage. WHO only considers higher educational qualifications obtained from an accredited institution. | |
| Skills: 1. Strong interest and understanding of different media outlets and how they influence public perception and/or shape opinions or trends among the public as well as public health policymaking bodies; 2. Good knowledge of communication strategies and methods; 3. Strong understanding of organization reputational risk; 4. Ability to work under tight deadlines; 5. Excellent analytical and drafting skills; 6. Proactive and journalistic approach to work; and 7. Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct. Competencies: 1. | Experience: Minimum of two years relevant work experience in communication or journalism is essential. Experience in monitoring social media at a corporate level and experience working at WHO or other international organizations is preferred. | |
| Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Working knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage. | |

| Annual salary: (Net of tax) USD 47 292 at single rate USD 50 420 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 45 % of the above figure(s).
